Ice Cube is slated to star in a film about the life of 24-year-old Olympic gold medalist boxer Claressa “T-Rex” Shields titled Flint Strong, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie is based on the the dramatic adaptation of 2015 boxing documentary T-REX.

The actor-rapper will star as her coach, Jason Crutchfield, and will be joined by Fox’s Star talent Ryan Destiny, who is set to play Shields.

Black Panther‘s director of photography Rachel Morrison, who made history when she became the first woman cinematographer to be nominated for an Oscar, will be making her feature directorial debut with Flint Strong.

The film’s screenplay was written by Academy Award-winning director Barry Jenkins.

Shields history-making boxing dreams begin in Flint, Michigan and landed her at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London where she took home a gold medal for her win in the women’s middleweight division. She currently holds world championships in three weight classes and is the undisputed female middleweight champion of the world.

This will be Cube’s first movie since 2017’s Fist Fight.
