In collaboration with Triller, VERZUZ has announced their boxing event ‘Lineage of Greatness’ with May headliners Cypress Hill and Onyx.

VERZUZ returns to Los Angeles in May. With boxing event ‘Lineage of Greatness’, ’90s hip-hop acts Cypress Hill and Onyx will headline the event on Saturday, May 14th at The Forum. With the event themed “Fight Night Music”, boxers slated to appear include Sergey Kovalev, Tervel and Kubrat Pulev, Vargas Dynasty and Evan Holyfield.

Per The Source, in January, Onyx member Fredro Starr spoke with Bovada about who the group would potentially do a VERZUZ with.

“I’m willing to take on Cypress Hill to do an Onyx/Cypress Hill VERZUZ; I’m willing to do an Onyx/Dogg Pound VERZUZ,” he said. “I just think that the VERZUZ stage is great for artists who’ve been in the game for a minute and a lot of people say that n***** ain’t got 20 records which is crazy. I think that Onyx has one of the best stage shows in hip-hop. You give us an hour with anybody on that stage, and they’re going to feel the wrath!”

In another announcement, VERZUZ teased a list of upcoming shows for the spring and summer, with gospel acts Mary Mary and BeBe & CeCe Winans holding an Easter Special, while the remainder of shows are blurred out.

As the platform preps their upcoming performances, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland and Lena Waithe are set to co-produce Young, Gifted and Black a full-length documentary about VERZUZ on Amazon Prime.

“When we first started this mission the entire world had hit rock bottom. People were going through so much and Tim and I felt we should do something to help folks escape,” Swizz Beatz said. “The rest is history, we made the magical call to Hillman Grad because we only wanted people to see the best of the best.”

Tickets for ‘Lineage of Greatness’ go on sale Friday, March 25th at 12 PM PT/3 PM ET.
