Chicago, IL – The Chicago Police Department warned officers and residents about potential retaliation shootings following the death of FBG Duck. Safety alerts asked teens and young adults to stay inside over the weekend, fearing the response to the loss of Duck.

“Chicago Police have expressed concerns of a possible city-wide gang war in retaliation for Tuesday’s Gold Coast shooting of Chicago rapper [FBG] Duck,” the advisory note read.

While cops are worried about the possible fallout from Duck’s shooting, the late rapper’s mother wants the violence to come to an end. On Friday (August 7), LaSheena Weekly held a press conference and pleaded for no retribution in her son’s name.

“I am here today to ask for peace in the city of Chicago,” she said. “I am asking that his fans, friends of my son, to please not seek retaliation in the death of my son … As his mother, I want to say please put the guns down so that the generation of tomorrow can grow and live a long and healthy life.”

Duck was shot and killed while shopping in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood on Tuesday (August 4). His murder happened in broad daylight on Oak Street, which houses multiple luxury stores.

The Gold Coast, which is one of the most affluent areas in the Windy City, has suddenly become a destination for chaos since Duck was killed. Widespread looting erupted days later in downtown Chicago, resulting in dozens of arrests and injuries to multiple officers on Sunday night (August 9) and Monday morning (August 10).

Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said the havoc was spurred on by misinformation regarding an officer-involved shooting of 20-year-old man, who’s expected to survive. In response, looters targeted stores in upscale areas such as the Magnificent Mile.

“What occurred in our downtown and surrounding communities was abject criminal behavior, pure and simple,” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said a press conference. “This was straight-up felony criminal conduct.”

So far, 100 people have been arrested. According to police, 13 officers were injured during the mayhem.
