McDonald’s has thrust itself into the music world with a mammoth collaboration with Travis Scott in September and now another one connecting with J. Balvin and his Mickey D’s meal of choice. Chance The Rapper chimed in on Sunday (October 4) to share he was supposed to do a Super Bowl commercial with the Golden Arches at one point, but then money became an issue.

“I was supposed to do a Super Bowl commercial with them,” he said when responding to fellow Chicago native and designer Joe Freshgoods. “They played wit the money and when I said no, they hired a fake me.”

Back in 2014, Chance called out McDonald’s on Twitter to talk business. Complex points out that he could possibly be referring to their 2017 Super Bowl commercial in regards to the fast-food giant hiring a “fake” him.

However, Chance did ultimately make his Hollywood debut when teaming up with the Backstreet Boys in 2019 for Doritos’ memorable Super Bowl commercial.

The Travis Scott collaboration isn’t the first time McDonald’s has meshed with the Hip Hop world. In 2016, it was uncovered that Pusha T actually wrote the now-famous “I’m Lovin’ It” jingle.

Elsewhere for Chance, the Coloring Book rapper says he’s slated to perform another virtual concert this Thursday (October 8), so stay tuned for more information on that.

On the heels of Travis Scott’s McDonald’s collab, his latest “Franchise” single featuring Young Thug and M.I.A. debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, which gives him the fourth chart-topper of his career.
