Celebrity typically comes with an unhealthy amount of scrutiny and Boosie Badazz’s moves are no exception. After he was spotted wearing a Kappa Alpha Psi shirt at a recent Houston Rockets game, members of the historically black fraternity slammed the Baton Rouge rapper.

Boosie’s Instagram comment section was quickly filled with fraternity brothers and sorority sisters outraged he’d have the gall to wear it considering he’s never pledged. Comments ranged from calling Boosie “disrespectful” to suggesting he could be “sued.”

Others stood up for him and claimed Boosie’s brother is a Kappa.

After catching wind of backlash, Boosie issued a statement on the situation, saying, “I was n the mall looking for red n saw the sweater n it was hard. Yes I knew it was a Kappa sweater. I thought I would get love from wearing it not hate. Calm y’all.”

Others made light of the situation and jokingly accepted Boosie as an honorary member of the fraternity. ___ Now in case y’all aren’t familiar with Greek life or HBCU culture, Black fraternities and sororities find it very offensive when a non-Greek rocks their letters as it is a privilege only earned by those who have gone through the pledging process and have become members of their respective organizations. ___ Boosie clearly caught wind of what was going on because he offered up the following as a response: “I was n the mall looking for red n saw the sweater n it was hard. Yes I knew it was a Kappa sweater. I thought I would get love from wearing it not hate. Calm yall–click the link in our bio to read more.

Kappa Alpha Psi was founded in 1911 at Indiana University Bloomington and now boasts over 160,000 members.

The pledges must adhere to The Constitution and Statutes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. to be a member. Simply put, they take it extremely seriously  — and Boosie just learned that the hard way.
