Black Thought has unveiled a new release date for his forthcoming Streams Of Thought Vol. 3: Cane & Able project. On Tuesday (October 13), the Roots frontman shared a black-and-white Instagram video of himself writing the album details on a notebook, revealing a release date of October 16 in the process.

The post read, “Streams of Thought Vol. 3 – Cane & Able. 10-16.20 Ft. Portugal The Man, The Last Artful Dodgr, Oshun, C.S. Armstrong, Schoolboy Q, Swizz Beatz!!! Pusha T … Killer Mike!!!”

The project was originally expected to arrive on July 10 but was pushed back with no explanation. However, Thought acknowledged the delay in the caption, writing, “Thank you for your patience. The wait is over. Let’s go!”

During an interview with HipHopDX, Thought explained the title of the project, a reference to the Biblical story of Cain and Abel — but with a twist.

“The producer, Sean C, his last name is Cane,” he explained. “He’s quite literally Sean Cane. And me being one of the most able MCs, it’s a play on words as a nod to my ability and to him actually being Cane. And then also too, just a sign of the times, so to speak, and the original sin, I guess. It spoke to all those different things, so it made perfect sense to subtitle the album.”

Streams of Thought Vol. 3: Cane & Able serves as the follow-up to Streams of Thought Vol. 2 which arrived in November 2018. Check out the tracklist below.

The first single, “Thought Vs. Everybody,” is expected to be released on July 10. He also made sure to tag everyone who’s contributing to the project on the post.

Streams Of Thought Vol. 2 arrived in November 2018 and boasted nine cuts produced solely by Salaam Remi. Its predecessor, Streams Of Thought Vol. 1, was released that same year in May. Produced by 9th Wonder and the Soul Council, the five-track EP featured Rapsody, Styles P and KIRBY.

The project received a 4.5 out of 5 rating from HipHopDX and proved without a doubt, “Tariq Trotter is a beast and leaving him out of any top lyricist conversations would equate to blasphemy.”

Black Thought recently appeared with Public Enemy at the 2020 BET Awards for an updated version of “Fight The Power” with Nas, Rapsody, YG, Questlove and Enemy Radio MC Jahi.
