The “Because” visual from Black Thought & Danger Mouse features Joey Bada$$, Russ and Dylan Cartlidge taking over Times Square in NYC.

Black Thought & Danger Mouse take over Times Square in their music video for “Because.” Featuring Joey Bada$$, Russ and indie vocalist Dylan Cartlidge, the single comes from Black Thought and Danger Mouse’s debut collaborative album Cheat Codes which releases next month.

In the CGI music video, Black Thought, Joey Bada$$, Russ and Dylan Cartlidge perform on mega-LED screens in Times Square, along with a POV character’s smartphone screen. As Cheat Codes marks Black Thought’s latest album since Streams of Thought, Vol. 3: Cane & Able in 2020, the album will also be Danger Mouse’s first hip-hop project since collaborating with the late MF DOOM as part of Dangerdoom.

In other Black Thought news, the founding emcee of The Roots got his flowers last month with his own mural in Philadelphia. Housed at The Clay Studio in Olde Kensington, the mural is titled “The Talented Mr.Trotter: You Can Be Anything,” and was created by visual artist Roberto Lugo.

“This is huge for me,” Black Thought told The Philly Voice. “To go from scaling buildings to get a little bit of rep and tag my name somewhere that may never be seen, to having my face plastered on the side of this four-story building. It’s pretty amazing. That’s the stuff of legends. This reward overshadows every recognition that I’ve ever received.”

Cheats Codes releases on August 12 via BMG. Be sure to grab the LP vinyl in the Okayshop.
