One day prior to the release of her sophomore album age/sex/location, Ari Lennox released five-track surprise EP Away Message.

Ari Lennox is leaving fans with an appetizer before the release of her sophomore album age/sex/location on Friday (September 2). With five tracks, Lennox’s EP Away Message features her “Queen Space” collaboration with Summer Walker. Remaining songs on Away Message are called “Tatted,” “Gummy,” “No Settling” and “Bitter.”

Following singles “Pressure” and “Hoodie,” on Wednesday (August 31) Lennox dropped “Queen Space” after  Summer Walker also shared a snippet of the song on Twitter. The two last collaborated on Walker’s “Unloyal” from her 2021 album Still Over It, also performing the song during the Soul Train Awards 2021.

Dreamville Records co-founder and J. Cole’s manager Ib Hamad also shared a clip of J. Cole listening to the song during a studio session, which Lennox reposted on Twitter.

“I can’t wait ’til this shit come out,” Cole says in the clip.

After Lennox announced the title of her sophomore album, J. Cole went to Instagram to post a text from the Shea Butter Baby singer about what age/sex/location represents to her, which also references chat rooms from the early aughts of internet culture.

“Transitional space. Very vulnerable codependent and validation seeking part of my life,” Lennox wrote. “I remember the countless times I was kicked out of dating apps because they didn’t think I was really myself, it reminded me of those age/sex/location days where I actually wasn’t being myself in those chat rooms.”

age/sex/location releases Friday, September 9.
