All-Star Musical Director Adam Blackstone Releases Debut Album ‘Legacy’

Adam Blackstone finally delivers a debut proper, featuring contributions from Jill Scott, Questlove, James Poyser, Robert Glasper, Queen Latifah, Terrace Martin, Jazmine Sullivan, and more.

After nearly two decades of directing and designing the bands of music’s biggest stars, Adam Blackstone has officially unveiled his debut studio album, Legacy.

The 14-track project rallies friends, family, and fellow Philly jazz and r&b heroes, including Jill Scott, Robert Glasper, Queen Latifah (delivering her feature since 2016,) Terrace Martin, Jazmine Sullivan, and more. Legacy was announced earlier this month with release of the album’s lead single, “Round Midnight,” which is a buttery update on Thelonious Monk standard, featuring Sullivan on vocals, along with accompaniment from Questlove and James Poyser.

Legacy arrives on the heels of another mantel-worthy year for Blackstone. At the top of September, the 38-year-old bassist and musical director who took home his first Emmy for Outstanding Music Direction for the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show (which also won awards for Outstanding Variety Special and Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special,) celebrating the impact of Dr. Dre‘s catalog, career, and influence, with Aftermath signees galore, including Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Anderson .Paak, 50 Cent, and Eminem.
