Common returned to his Common Sense roots in this vicious freestyle.

“Damn he near an EGOT and he’s still hip-hop.”

Rapper Common made his return to Power 106’s L.A. Leakers to spit a monster freestyle. Rapping over Group Home’s DJ Premier-produced classic “Livin’ Proof,” Common spit:

I’m rooted in Black Thought like Tariq
I was a drifter, now I’m a shifter of paradigms, an uplifter of tethered minds
Forever signed to the artform although things didn’t start warm
Wrinkles in time until I meet my Tony Starks form.”

Later, when the beat transitioned to Raekwon’s RZA-produced masterpiece “Incarcerated Scarfaces,” he made sure to give the MC a shout out:

I see through devils, the Gods stay down the block I always knew the levels
These are pedals to flow words, oral arrangements like orchids. I turn a desert into an orchard
Its food deserts in my city, they say a change gonna come but only by committee
The witty unpredictable, every time this play give Rae his
residuals

Common was at Power 106 to promote his new album, A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2, which is dropping tonight.

The 11-track project features contributions from Black Thought, PJ, Brittany Howard, Jessica Care Moor, Seun Kuti, Isaiah Sharkey, and more. “A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2 was created with hope and inspiration in mind,” the Chicago rapper said in a press release. “The spirit of the album was meant to emulate what a greater day would sound and feel like. We were in the midst of some tough political and socially challenging times. There was still hurt, anger and pain lingering, so I was thinking, ‘what is the next step in this revolution?’”

The album is a followup to  A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 1, which dropped last year. Watch Common black out below.
