Coachella was scheduled for October 2021 but is now being moved to April 2022, according to a new report.

Coachella is reportedly being rescheduled for a fourth time.

In a report from Variety, the music festival is moving from October 2021 to April 2022, according to “two industry sources with knowledge of the situation.” The sources said that uncertainty over the covid-19 pandemic is the reason for the rescheduling. The festival was first moved from April to October 2020, followed by April 2021, and then October. Variety noted that “the October dates were not officially confirmed by promoters and there have been no dates posted on the festival’s official website for several months.”

A county health order canceled the event’s scheduled dates in April this year back in January.

“If Covid-19 were detected at these festivals, the scope and number of attendees and the nature of the venue would make it infeasible, if not impossible, to track those who may be placed at risk,” the order said, according to the New York Times.

The 2020 Coachella festival was supposed to have Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott, and Frank Ocean as headliners.

Dr. Fauci, the top infectious disease expert in the United States, spoke on the possibility of concert venues and theaters reopening in the fall back in January, saying that the return would depend on 70% to 85% of the population being vaccinated. However, he didn’t address the likelihood of larger social gatherings like outdoor music festivals returning before the end of the year.

“If everything goes right, this will occur some time in the fall of 2021, so that by the time we get to the early to mid-fall, you can have people feeling safe performing onstage as well as people in the audience,” Fauci said at the time.
