Yo! MTV Raps originally aired on MTV from 1988–95.

Yo! MTV Raps is getting revived but it won’t be making its return on MTV. In a report from Variety, MTV Raps is being rebooted for Paramount Plus, the revamped version of CBS All Access.

Others shows like MTV Unplugged and VH1’s Behind the Music are also getting revived for the forthcoming streaming service.

“We are thrilled to re-invent some of our most storied and impactful music franchises, including Behind the Music and Yo! MTV Raps, for Paramount Plus,” Bruce Gilmer, ViacomCBS’ president of music, music talent, programming and events, said. “In addition, we will partner with some of the biggest names across the music industry to bring exclusive and unique content to the platform.”

According to Rolling Stone, the rebooted MTV Raps will “feature a similar format to the original, with hosted segments, live performances and cyphers taking place.” Hosts for the new show haven’t been named yet. Yo! MTV Raps was the network’s first show dedicated to hip-hop. The series was originally hosted by Fab 5 Freddy before Doctor Dré, Ed Lover and T Money became hosts (although Freddy continued to host the show on weekends). The pilot episode of the series was actually hosted by Run-DMC. The series featured apearances from rappers across the country: from the Wu-Tang Clan to the Pharcyde.
