The project is a collaboration between the producer, designer DrX Romanelli, and painter Spencer Russell Lewis, with a lone verse from Westside Gunn.

Alchemist is entering the fourth quarter of 2020 with yet another collaborative album.

Teased over the last few months on Instagram, A Doctor, Painter, & An Alchemist Walk Into a Bar isn’t the DOOM link-up many hoped for. Instead, the producer’s latest outing is a concept album, featuring mostly instrumental work and a single verse from Griselda’s Westside Gunn on the track “Stained Glass.” The collaborative aspect of the project comes into play with its packaging and presentation, debuting at an installation in LA’s Over The Influence gallery alongside new pieces from designer DrX Romanelli and painter Spencer Russell Lewis, who offered a glimpse at the exhibit on his Instagram page (see below.) Scenes from the installation are also housed in a special edition vinyl issue of the album, which features a slipcase cover and coffee table-ish book. Limited to just 500 copies, the album is pressed to marigold yellow wax and is, sadly, already sold out.

Aside from his own project, Alchemist also appeared in the production credits of Westside Gunn’s major-label debut, WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE, joining a prestigious cast of hip-hop heavyweights, including Black Thought, Slick Rick, Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, and the entirety of the Griselda family.

Stream Alchemist’s new instrumental project, A Doctor, Painter, & An Alchemist Walk into a Bar, below. Scroll on for snapshots from the album installation at Over The Influence. Here’s hoping we might still get that DOOM drop one of these days.
