Lil Durk still intends to release an album titled The Voice despite not dropping it on September 4 to compete with Tekashi 6ix9ine’s TattleTales LP. After delivering a single called “The Voice” ahead of the Labor Day weekend, the Chicago-bred rapper teased an October release date for a project using the same name on Sunday (September 7).

“The voice album won already and it’s not even out yet 10/?/20,” he wrote via Instagram.

While trading social media jabs with 6ix9ine in August, Durk declared he would drop something titled “The Voice” on September 4 — the same release date as 6ix9ine’s sophomore album. Fans widely assumed the release would be a full-length project or at least an EP, but it ended up just being a single.

After finding out Durk was only putting out a song, 6ix9ine mocked his rival on Instagram. The controversial rapper’s insult mentioned Durk’s late cousin OTF Nunu a.k.a. Nuski, who 6ix9ine had previously referenced during his trolling of Durk.

“REMEMBER THIS GOOFY SAID HE WANT ALL THE SMOKE,” 6ix9ine wrote on Instagram Stories. “LEAVE THE SMOKE TO NUDKI #NUSKI PACK.”

By the end of August, Durk stopped engaging with the convicted felon online. He claimed someone from 6ix9ine’s team offered him $3 million to keep up the trolling for promo, which he refused to do.

“That bitch-ass nigga label call me,” Durk said on Instagram Live. “Somebody from his camp. I ain’t gonna say his label. Somebody from his camp called somebody from my camp talking ’bout they’ll give me $3 million to keep trolling with this nigga. Dead. I hope y’all on here looking and listening. That shit dead, man. I ain’t never gon’ turn my back on the fucking streets, ever.”

Durk’s new album would be his second project of 2020 and the follow-up to May’s Just Cause Y’all Waited 2. Watch the video for “The Voice” single below.
