Los Angeles, CA – Tekashi 6ix9ine was viewed as a polarizing figure even before he was arrested on racketeering charges in November of 2018  — but that didn’t stop producer Ronny J from connecting with him.

In a recent interview with HipHopDX, he spoke about the spontaneous experience, revealing that the Tattle Tales rapper basically walked into his studio session and in the process, they created his platinum “BEBE” record featuring Anuel AA.

“It was literally just unpredictable bro, I was just at the studio,” Ronny J recalled. “My boy was outside playing basketball and ran he was like, ‘Yo bro, Tekashi’s outside,’ so I was just like,’Ok bet, tell him to come in.’ And then he actually came in — and he was just like, ‘Yo what y’all working on,’ real like normal. He was just like, ‘Yo, what y’all working on,’ blasé blasé — and then he was just like, ‘Yo I got the room down here, but can I work in here with you?’ So already, that lowkey threw me off because people don’t do that, you know.”

“But I was open to it — I’m all about the great vibes bro, you get me. So, I was just like, ‘Yea, I know who you are, let’s do it, why not.’ I make beats, he raps, let’s see what we could do. So that same day we made that song (“BEBE”) the first day,” he continued.

The producer also recounted how deep 6ix9ine’s security was during the session, describing how they went on an all-out manhunt at one point when they could not find the rapper.

“It was a crazy experience, I can even remember that day, he like people were looking for him or something. People were circling the studio, it was crazy, I ain’t gone lie. And that studio, in that specific studio there is only one way in and one way out, so it was kind of crazy. I ain’t gone act like I was all scared like shook — because he had security there too, but yeah I was a little nervous, like yo this is crazy bro. Like I’m down to link but not with all this.”

“BEBE” was released as a single in August of 2018 and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart and No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
