After social media was blown away with the news CyHi The Prynce wrote a portion of Travis Scott’s Drake-assisted smash “Sicko Mode,” Russ used his platform to shine a spotlight on both him and Starrah, another singer/songwriter known for her pen game.

“Shoutout to Starrah & CyHi,” he tweeted in the early hours of Sunday (August 16). “Those are actually a lot of y’alls favorite artists.”

CyHi became a trending topic the day before when his government name “Cydel Young” was discovered on four Astroworld tracks including “Sicko Mode,” as well as three tracks on Kanye West and Kid Cudi’s Kids See Ghosts, 12 tracks on The Life of Pablo, five out of the seven tracks on Ye and three tracks on Jesus Is King.

The G.O.O.D. Music rapper has not hidden the fact he’s worked on the projects, even previously discussing his Astroworld contributions in a 2018 interview with Complex.

“Once you put out a rap album and you’re getting 50, 60, 100 grand a show and you’re this household name, the only next level to go is to compete with Adele and Sam Smith and whatever gospel choir or alternative rock group is up for Album of the Year,” he said. “Those guys aren’t in there by theyself. It’s 30, 40 people-you got trumpet players, lyricists, writers.

“We’re starting to treat rap like that, like it has to be that important. But [knowing] what minds to put into the room is what makes you a great producer. Instead of just having your homeboys from the crib that’s just in there smoking weed, chilling, playing video games, you’d rather put up a flight for a guy like me, that’s going to make sure the shit sounds dope.”

Starrah has loaned her pen game out to names among the likes of Rihanna and Beyoncé over the years, but has also made appearances singing hooks she wrote on albums like Big Sean’s I Decided, Kid Ink’s Summer In The Winter and G-Eazy’s When It’s Dark Out.

Just last week on August 12, Starrah stepped out from behind the scenes and released her debut solo single, “How It Goes.” Stream the record below.
