Vince Staples takes it back to his upbringing on Ramona Park Broke My Heart with features from Lil Baby, Ty Dolla $ign and Mustard.

As a follow-up to his 2021 eponymous fourth album, Vince Staples returns with new effort Ramona Park Broke My Heart. With 16 tracks, the album features Lil Baby, Ty Dolla $ign and Mustard, with additional production from Kenny Beats, Cardo, DJ Dahi and more.

Staples debuted the album cover last month, penning a message behind Ramona Park Broke My Heart.

“I am often told the lie that life is what you make it,” he wrote. “For over a decade, most of my work has been an anthology of what I believed to be home. Now I’ve realized that it reaches beyond location.”

“I have been exploring the utility of home,” he added. Security. Comfort. Meaning. The answer. The excuse. To outgrow is to love blindly no longer. ‘Ramona Park Broke My Heart’ is the story of that growth.”

The rapper also revealed that the album is an extension of Vince Staples. “I’m still working through things and the questions that life poses. This album will make even more sense if you heard the previous one,” he wrote.

Prior to the release of Ramona Park Broke My Heart, Staples dropped lead single “MAGIC” with Mustard in February, followed by “ROSE STREET” which the rapper shared in March, both songs having accompanying visuals.

In a recent Hot 97 interview, Staples called out music executives for profiting off of violence in rap.

“I feel like it was more protected. When you hear N.O.R.E. and all those other people talk about the role that their A&R’s and executives had in their life, moving them out and doing certain things for them, like when Snoop [Dogg] talks about Master P moving him out to New Orleans,” he said. “I don’t think anyone’s doing that anymore. I think they see the money in the violence. Back then, the violence ruined the money.”

On Friday, Staples will wrap up on Tyler, the Creator‘s Call Me If You Get Lost tour with Teezo Touchdown and Kali Uchis.
