The Weeknd has tapped into his wealth to aid the victims of the Beirut explosions, which killed close to 200 people and injured more than 6,000. The diamond-selling singer’s manager Wassim “Sal” Slaiby, who was born in Lebanon, revealed his XO Records co-founder donated $300,000 to Global Aid for Lebanon.
“I am so honored and humbled to work with artists who have such deep care for the world and right now for our brothers & sisters of Lebanon who are in pain and need our collective help,” he wrote via Instagram. “I want to thank my brother @theweeknd for his generous and class act of donating $300,000 to the Global Aid for Lebanon campaign.”
He added, “Also, I want to give a special thank you to Michael Rapino @michaelrapino and my Live Nation family for $50,000 donation. Give what you can and let’s repost so the world can come together to help Lebanon from this devastating tragedy. #GlobalAidForLebanon @glblctzn @lebaneseredcross @wfpusa @wfp_mena @ccclebanon.”
The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ Single Makes Billboard Chart History
Weeknd’s charitable contribution to the victims in Beirut comes on the heels of a string of big donations he’s made to multiple causes. He donated $200,000 to the Black Lives Matter Global Network, another $200,000 to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp Legal Defense Initiative and $100,000 to National Bail Out in June.
The hitmaking artist has also been providing funds to assist the fight against the coronavirus. He gave $500,000 to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund as well as an additional $500,000 to Scarborough Health Network to help frontline hospital workers.
