The Alchemist is living on a high right now after receiving a Grammy nomination for Alfredo, his critically-acclaimed collaborative album with Freddie Gibbs. He’s not letting an unsurprising fumble from the Recording Academy ruin his moment either.
The latest Grammy flop comes in the form of a hilarious mix-up on Alchemist’s artist page on the official website of the awards show. His stats are correct, with both his nominations in 2008 and 2020 listed under his name, but it’s the picture they used that ruined the moment.
Instead of using an actual image of the scruffy-faced producer, a black-and-white picture of a tatted-up man looking deep into the camera went up instead. There’s no word on who the man in question is either. Perhaps there’s another (international) artist named Alchemist?
Regardless of who it is, the mix-up did not bother Alchemist one bit as he took a screen capture of the page and posted it to his Instagram, revealing he was not mad and just brushed it off.

“Lol . Fuckit, we out here! @freddiegibbs #Alfredo,” he wrote in the captions. Gibbs, along with Statik Selektah and MixedByAli, poked fun at their producer friend in the comments. Alchemist’s artist page has yet to be updated following the jokes on his post.
The Grammy-nominated producer was not the only one who had an embarrassing mix-up at the hands of the Recording Academy. Jack Harlow, who earned his first Grammy nomination for “What’s Poppin,” was incorrectly listed as singer Luke James during the announcement of the nominations.

As much as the Grammy Awards tries to get things right when it comes to Hip Hop and R&B, they always manage to drop the ball somewhere. The 2021 Grammy nominations have been the topic of conversation lately for the questionable picks in the Hip Hop categories, and it’s evident, year after year, the lack of attention the Recording Academy has for the culture.
Despite the controversy, nothing can ruin Alchemist’s moment. His collaborative album with Freddie Gibbs, Alfredo, gave the legendary producer his highest-charting album to date. It debuted at number 12 and number 15 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums and 200 charts, respectively. HipHopDX gave Alfredo a score of 4.5/5 in our review.
