On “I Like Dat,” T-Pain does what he does best, throughout the track, he fuses his auto-tune style with R&B and serves up a modern version of his beloved hit “Buy U a Drank.”

Apparently, it’s 2007 again. T-Pain and Kehlani surprise dropped a new collab “I Like Dat.”

The new track rides the coattails of T-Pain’s bop “Buy U a Drank.” On it, the rapper/singer blesses listeners with his sound that was heard through his debut album Rappa Ternt Sanga and his second album Epiphany.

On “I Like Dat,” T-Pain does what he does best, throughout the track, he fuses his auto-tune style with R&B and serves up a modern version of his beloved hit. Kehlani shares a female verse flipping the script and highlights that she doesn’t need anyone to treat her to what she wants when she’s in the club. “Real bossed up fly shit, I ain’t the passenger, I’m the pilot,” this line drives the point home. But so does, “No I don’t need ya.”

The chorus hits differently when you reflect on the undertones that were in “Buy U a Drank.” The two sing it together: “She don’t even need me to buy her nothing, drank / She got money in the bank / Whatchu think ’bout that?”

“Kehlani has been one of the best to work with, real talk,” T. Pain shared in a statement. “She did her thing on this track and made it what it is. Also, it do be like that sometimes.”

Most recently, Kehlani dropped off her well-received album It Was Good Until It Wasn’t in May 2020. The last time T-Pain was in the public eye was when he battled against Lil’ Jon in a Southern-themed Verzuz.

If you asked us a few years back if we would’ve thought we’d hear Kehlani and T. Pain on a song together, we lowkey would’ve laughed. We’re thinking this single arrived just in time to be shortlisted as a summer anthem.
