Grammy-winning rapper T.I. has at least one person in his corner. A neighbor has stepped forward to defend Tip after he found himself in handcuffs this week following an altercation with their gated community’s security.

According to one of the Georgia community’s residents, the security has a bad rep.

Some neighbors Channel 2 Action News talked with on Wednesday said the guard was wrong. “I actually back (T.I.) up completely because the gate, I’ve always said this, they don’t use common sense,” one neighbor said. She said most of the guards are good, but some treat residents poorly. “Don’t you think it’s a little rough? I mean, he actually owns the home. I live right across the street from them.” the woman said. (WSB-TV)

This week, Tip addressed his big arrest and provided context on the incident.

He says it was a “very heated debate,” but nothing ever became physical. He says the guard eventually called the police, but says the law enforcement near his home are “white cops in a very white area,” and he was promptly arrested. The artist tells us the security guard involved in the argument is black, which added to the frustration of the situation. He says he gave the guard “every opportunity” to apologize for sleeping, but the guy refused. (The Blast)

The rap heayvweight’s lawyer has since issued a statement on what went down.

Early Wednesday, details initially emerged on Tip’s arrest.

The rapper TI has been arrested on disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and simple assault charges as he tried to enter his gated community outside Atlanta, police have said.
