On Friday, Steve Lacy released the single and music video for “Mercury,” which will be featured on his upcoming album Gemini Rights.

Steve Lacy has returned with his first song in three years. On Friday, the musician (and member of The Internet) released the single and Rubberband-directed visual for “Mercury,” which is set to appear on his upcoming sophomore album Gemini Rights.

To kick off his album rollout, Lacy also stopped by The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music 1 to share that Gemini Rights will be 10 songs long and release in the summer. He also said that the album was co-written with singer-songwriter Fousheé, and will also exhibit his “whole philosophy” on music.

“I don’t want to take people’s lives,” Lacy said about the album having 10 tracks. “I want them to make a decision to want to keep playing it again. I try my best to make my music to where you want to do that again. I produced about 90 percent of the record. I tried to be like, ‘Oh, I need an executive producer, da, da, da.’ But I ended up still doing it.”

In 2020, Lacy released the compilation album The Lo-Fis, which heavily features old demos from his SoundCloud. Since then, the musician appeared on “Skin Tight” from Ravyn Lenae‘s newest album Hypnos. In 2019, Lacy released his debut album Apollo XXI, which was nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
