The rapper Speech from the group Arrested Development has defended former TV host Dee Barnes after she reminded people about Dr. Dre beating her up in 1991.

The assault came after Ice Cube — who had recently left NWA — clowned the rest of the group during an interview with Barnes on her show Pump It Up!

Dee discussed the assault on The Wendy Williams Show in 2019 and reposted a clip from the chat this weekend.

That’s when Speech shared his thoughts on the assault, saying it caused a moral downshift in Hip Hop.

“She wasn’t protected nor properly redeemed by HipHop, rap, the Black community nor law enforcement,” wrote Speech in part. “This incident was (IMO) the beginning of when hiphop lost its moral compass. We need [to] find our way again.”

Dee-1 and Special Ed have also accused Dre and NWA for ruining Hip Hop, although for different reasons.
