Robert Glasper teams up with D Smoke and Tiffany Gouché on the second single from Black Radio 3.

More than a year since the announcement of Black Radio 3, Robert Glasper has finally unveiled another single from the upcoming project.

On his latest, the pianist, producer, composer, and recently-minted actor (see the new season of Black Monday,) enlists D Smoke and Tiffany Gouché to assist on “Shine,” a smooth, empowering, and slightly-swung follow-up to the album’s introductory track, “Better Than I Imagined,” which was released in summer of 2020. “I was so happy to collaborate with D Smoke on this song. He’s definitely one of the leading voices in today’s new generation of hip hop. He has his feet planted in the soil of real music and comes from a family of amazing musicians and artists. That being said, also shout out to Tiffany Gouché, his cousin who’s on the song as well. We want to see everybody shine,” Glasper wrote in a statement via press release.

“Shine” arrives amidst another month-long residency at NYC’s legendary Blue Note Jazz Club. Fittingly dubbed “Robtober,” the residency is only a week in, but has already seen surprise appearances from a number of Glasper’s famous friends, including Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle just this past weekend. The residency commenced with Glasper’s acoustic trio. This week the pianist takes the stage with Common and Karriem Riggins as August Greene. Glasper will also perform alongside Meshell Ndegeocello (featured on the first Black Radio 3 single with H.E.R.,) and Dinner Party (his group with Terrace Martin and 9th Wonder.) The residency closes out with a week of Black Radio shows, featuring PJ Morton and Bilal. You can grab your tickets via Blue Note today.
