After being delayed from hitting theaters in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Charm City Kings finally has a new release date.

Meek Mill‘s Hollywood debut is now slated to land on HBO Max for streaming on October 8. The rescheduled release date was revealed in a new trailer for the film, which also caught airtime during Tuesday night’s (September 8) Houston Rockets vs. Los Angeles Lakers playoff matchup.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are involved as executive producers for the project through their Overbrook Entertainment company, while Sherman Payne helmed screenwriting duties.

Charm City Kings tells the coming-of-age story of a teenager looking to find acceptance in Baltimore’s trenches as part of the street biking gang known as the Midnight Clique. Being a proponent of the “Bike Life” himself, Meek was a fitting choice to star as Blax in the film.

Angel Manuel Soto’s movie has garnered more of Hollywood’s attention since taking home Dramatic Special Jury Prize for Ensemble Acting honors at the 2020 Sundance Festival. The blockbuster’s events are actually based on 2013’s 12 O’Clock Boys documentary, which takes a deep dive into Baltimore’s bike culture.

Elsewhere, Meek popped up for a cameo on Big Sean’s “Don Life” alongside Lil Wayne. Sean shed light on the Philly native’s guest appearance shortly after Detroit 2‘s release, explaining that he only wanted him on the record to add texture to a certain line, but the “Burn” collaborators do have another unfinished collaboration in the stash.
