MaLLy is back after a five-year hiatus. The Minneapolis-bred MC has dropped a new album titled The Journey To A Smile, the follow-up to 2014’s The Colors Of Black.

“Writing this album was highly therapeutic for me because I got to say all of the things that were really on my heart,” he tells RealStreetRadio. “Over time, the album started to form into a true reflection of my spirituality practices, practicing sobriety and facing all of the challenges that come with being an artist. Throughout my whole career, I always went into an album hoping I’d get rich, be super famous or receive some lofty accolade to prove to everyone else I wasn’t wasting my time.”

For MaLLY, his latest LP represents a shift in his goals.

“This album was made out of the love for life, for music and for experiencing balance or ease no matter the circumstance,” he explains. “I believe all living beings just want to be happy, or smile, even if it’s only for a moment. Sometimes that smile comes from family, from a new job, perfect peace, accomplishing a large goal or just being. Yeah, this record truly inspired me to be a seeker and explore the infinite possibilities in my craft, my heart and what I was called to bring to the table.”
