Top Dawg Entertainment rapper REASON dropped a new single earlier this week called “The Soul Pt. 2” ahead of his forthcoming album. The track came with a blatant Logic diss in the second verse that ultimately landed on Logic’s radar.
“N-ggas pronounce my name wrong, tell me that I ain’t did much,” he raps. “See y’all mistake my name for Logic’s, y’all got me fucked up/How you compare a n-gga that take from the culture/Versus a n-gga that’s for it? This shit getting boring.”
After fans starting talking about it on Twitter, REASON pointed out he wrote the song a year ago, well before Logic announced his rap retirement.
“I’ll talk about the logic thing if necessary later,” he wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “But I do wanna make clear I didn’t wait til he retired to take a shot. I wrote this shit a year ago. That’s corny to do that now after he’s announced retirement. Take care, enjoy the music!”
During a live Twitch session, the Def Jam rapper was asked if he heard it.
“Did REASON diss you on his new song?” he said, reading the screen. “I don’t know who that is.”
View this post on Instagram#Logic has reached to TDE rapper Reason’s recent diss on his song ‘The Soul pt. 2’. Logic says he doesn’t even know who that is.
Logic is often the subject of ridicule and has taken plenty of verbal lashings from Joe Budden. The criticism from the former Everyday Struggle co-host got so bad at one point, Logic admitted his words make people want to “kill themselves.”
But the Maryland-born artist has seemingly put that all behind him and is focused on his wife and child as well as his seven-figure deal with Twitch.
REASON, on the other hand, is expected to deliver New Beginnings on October 9. In the meantime, check out “The Soul” sequel below.
