Dr. Dre is the latest artist to cash out by selling the rights to his catalog.

Dre will get between $200 and $250 million for what are two separate sales.

The bigger sale is to Shamrock Holdings.  This includes artist royalties from two of his solo albums, his share of N.W.A. artist royalties, his producer royalties, and the writer’s share of his song catalog which he doesn’t own publishing.  (This likely includes his seminal album, The Chronic.)

The Shamrock sale is 75 to 90 percent of the package.

The remaining 10 to 25 percent goes to Universal.  This includes the master recording of The Chronic, his share of an Aftermath/Interscope joint venture with the Top Dawg label for Kendrick Lamar releases, and other odds and ends.

It’s unclear if the two deals include the entirety of his catalog.

Dre’s lawyers had been openly shopping for a deal for some time.
