Brandy accidentally pulled a Mariah Carey on Yung Miami of the City Girls during her Verzuz battle with Monica.

Brandy and Monica sat down for their highly anticipated Verzuz on Monday night (August 31), going hit for hit for over three hours with over 1.2 million people tuning in. At one point in the night, Mo was introducing her 2006 song “Sideline Ho” when she brought up her homegirl Yung Miami by her government name, Caresha. Unfamiliar, Brandy looked around to people off-camera for some clarity before flat-out asking Monica who Caresha was, prompting an apology when she learned it was the City Girls rapper.

“I should have known that,” Brandy told Monica. “I’m sorry, Caresha.”

The quick moment wasn’t quick enough to be missed by the internet though, and Miami’s name became a trending topic just as fast. In a since-deleted tweet, the Florida native reacted by throwing some shade Brandy’s way.

“I only know 2 Brandy songs so we even,” she wrote with a smiling emoji.

After erasing the post, she made it clear she was joking, following up with, “I was just playing y’all damn I’m singing how you ever right now lol.”

She also tweeted a recap at the end of the night and declared a tie between the two veteran R&B singers.

“Tonight was so good,” Miami wrote. “I’m still living when brandy played when you touch me & when Monica played you should’ve known better.”

The ruffled feathers come as Miami and her groupmate JT have also been squashing rumors of any beef with their former collaborator, Cardi B. Although rumors have circulated because of their support of Cardi’s rival Nicki Minaj, JT clarified in a recent interview there’s nothing but love.

“When we talk about Nicki Minaj, we’re not doing some shade at Cardi,” JT said in an August interview with The Morning Hustle. “We’re just personally fans. For us to be artists, we deserve to like everybody too. It’s not nothing against her, it’s not nothing against anybody, period.”
