Big Sean’s new album Detroit 2 arrived on Thursday night (September 3) and had Hip Hop fans devouring its guests features. From Eminem and Stevie Wonder to Travis Scott and Post Malone, the sheer amount of collaborations was impressive on its own.

Musically, the 21-track project bumps with beats from Hit-Boy, Mike WiLL Made-It, Cool & Dre, No I.D., Boi-1da and Mustard, among others. But not every cut is a banger. There are multiple introspective moments where Sean Don seems to really get in touch with his emotions.

The second song “Lucky Me” also came with a confession. As part of his verse, he reveals he was diagnosed with a heart condition as a teenager and it was his mother who helped him get better. Although Sean initially let Entertainment Weekly hear the song last October, it might’ve not have been on some people’s radar.

“Man, lucky me,” he raps. “I was diagnosed with a heart disease at 19/Could barely stand on my feet/Doctors said they had to cut it open, put a pacemaker on it to put it back on beat/’Til my mama took me to holistic doctors and they prescribed me magnesium for two weeks/Went back to the regular doctors and they said, ‘Huh, damn, looks like we don’t need to proceed’/That’s how I know that western medicine weak.”

While speaking to EW, Sean explained why he decided to open up about it.

“I’ve never talked about certain things in my life,” Sean said. “It just kind of made me realize I need to really express some of these things. I just want people to remember to be individuals. Social media is such a great tool. I never want to bash it because it’s definitely helped me be who I am.

“But I feel like it also can manipulate us. There are memes and GIFs and shit that describe some of our moods better than we can, and I think that’s pretty funny sometimes — I love the SpongeBob memes. But at the same time I feel like we also have to make sure we don’t lose the ability to express ourselves.”
