Big Sean isn’t stressing about his battle with Tekashi 6ix9ine for the No. 1 album in the country, at least publicly. While reflecting on his Detroit 2 LP, the G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam rapper said the positive reception for his latest release was satisfying enough on Monday (September 7).

“I don’t know if my album Detroit 2 is goin #1 or not, that would be crazy if it did, but I feel like it’s already #1 to me because all I put into it, what I went through to make it and the impact it’s had on some of you,” he wrote via Twitter. “I’m too grateful for that alone!”

Sean’s Detroit 2 and 6ix9ine’s TattleTales were both released on September 4. Early sales projections indicated 6ix9ine’s project would be No. 1 on the next Billboard 200 chart, but updated predictions have opened the door for Sean to claim the top spot.

Prior to his comment about the race for No. 1, Sean posted a series of tweets about the importance of Detroit 2 in his life and career. He touched on some of his mental health struggles and noted he rediscovered his passion for music while making the LP.

Sean also thanked his fans and fellow artists for how they’ve reacted to his latest project.

“To the fans, listeners, even other artist who feel me through the music, or share it, or mention it on their platforms have inspired me to be more supportive of art and speak up,” he wrote. “I feel a sense of community in music and less competition and that feels amazing! So thank you!”

He added, “When I see someone say ‘you was speaking to me’ or people being inspired in some way even if it’s just to turn the fuck up n go get it, it makes me feel incredible because that was my goal, in my heart that’s what I hoped for. That’s why stayed so late every night for.”
