In November of 2022, Chicago rapper Lil Zay Osama was arrested in New York City after leaving his retro-fitted machine gun in his Uber after a trip from Manhattan to Queens.
Earlier this year, he pleaded guilty to possession of a machine gun.
The charge has a ten-year maximum, with federal guidelines dictating 21 to 27 months with a plea.
So credit Osama’s lawyer because on Thursday Osama received a sentence of 14 months and a 10K fine.
“This sentencing highlights a crucial point: possessing a machine gun conversion device is illegal under federal law. Machine gun conversion devices exponentially increase the lethality of firearms and put our communities in serious danger. Every device removed from our streets represents lives saved and tragedies prevented. Osama is still facing separate weapons charges in his home state of Illinois.
