Rap is a big slump.

Sales are down. For the first time in forever, there was a week when no rap songs were in the top 10.

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre offered two suggestions on what can happen to allow rap to reclaim its throne as top genre during a chat with Stephen A. Smith.

“Be original.  Because right now there is so much copycat, mimicking, sounding alike.  Be original.  Find your voice.  Find your production sound.  Even if it ain’t hit, stay you,” Snoop recommended.

“Find your collaborators,” Dre said.  I don’t like the fact that there is nine different producers on one album.  I like the idea of one producers on one album.  The continuity is everything,” Dre said.  “If you’re a producer, you should be able to produce the entire album.”

Snoop added that these days there are too many beatmakers and not enough producers.
