A New Kendrick Lamar Album Will Arrive Next Month

Through pgLang, on Monday, Kendrick Lamar announced that his new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers will release on May 13th.

Kendrick Lamar is nowhere close to retiring. On Monday, the rapper retweeted a Twitter user who claimed that “Kendrick Lamar is officially retired,” linking his website which features a new file update. In the file appears a press release, announcing that Lamar’s upcoming album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers will release on May 13th.

The announcement comes just days after the five-year anniversary of Lamar’s fourth album DAMN. In August 2021, the rapper teased that the record would be his “final TDE album.” “May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling,” he wrote. “There’s beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown.”

In July, Lamar will co-headline Rolling Loud Miami, his first performance at the rap festival since 2017.

In March 2020, Lamar and Dave Free started pgLang, what the two describe as a “a new multi-lingual, at service company.” Earlier this month, the company had a recent win, as Baby Keem won Best Rap Performance at the 2022 Grammys for “Family Ties,” his 2021 collaboration with Lamar.

During a recent interview with Mic, Top Dawg Entertainment president Terrence “Punch” Henderson Jr spoke on Lamar’s departure from the label, and praised his work with Keem.

“He’s doing a great job developing Baby Keem. It’s always been there, but now it’s just time and space where he can actually do it. It’s a beautiful thing to watch because that’s something that started with what we built in the beginning. To see it blossom, it’s a full-circle moment.”
