Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak Announce Collaborative Album as Silk Sonic

The project’s first single is set to drop next Friday, March 5th.

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak are joining forces for a collaborative outing this year.

Last night, the duo announced they’d recorded a joint project as Silk Sonic with P-Funk icon Bootsy Collins serving as the album’s host/narrator. A proper release date has yet to be announced, however, the album’s first single is slated to arrive next Friday, March 5th. “We locked in and made an album,” Mars wrote in a tweet announcing the project with some artwork (see below.)

Though they’ve never linked in the studio prior, rumors of some form of collaboration began when .Paak joined Mars on the European leg of the singer’s 24K Magic Tour in 2017. And while Mars has been more limited in his releases since 24K Magic, the other half of Silk Sonic has been on a tear in the years since. In just the last year, .Paak has released several loose singles, including “Don’t Slack” with Justin Timberlake and the poignant protest anthem, “Lockdown,” which receieved a remix featuring Noname, Jay Rock, and JID. .Paak also reunited with NxWorries commrade, Knxwledge, for a brief performance late last year, teasing the new song “Where I Go.” In an interview with Zane Lowe, .Paak confirmed a new NxWorries project was on the way. “We’re working on a new one. I was just over there the other day,” .Paak said to the show’s host.

There have yet to be proper release dates announced for either of these projects. Suppose we’ll just have to wait it out.

Stay tuned for the first Silk Sonic single to drop next week.
