Sango Drops House-Inspired Remix of J Dilla’s “Won’t Do”

Source: Instagram

Sango held on to the remix for a year until he could get the blessing from T3 of Slum Village.

On Wednesday, Michigan-via-Seattle producer Sango released a special remix for fans of J Dilla. The track, originally produced over a year ago, is a house-inspired flip of Dilla’s 2006 track “Won’t Do.” Sango got permission from T3 of Slum Village to release the track today. Stream the track below.

“Here’s the story,” Sango wrote on Instagram. “I got the green light from @t3slum to drop this remix. I waited one year, but we here! I used the original stems to remix this, which is very wild to me. I wanna say thanks to (you know who you are) for connecting me and blessing me with those. It’s an honor to be able to pay homage to the king.”

The Sango remix is a trippy, sped-up affair. The release is his first of 2021, after a 2020 in which he dropped three projects: SANGOZINHO, Da Rochina 4, and Shango. It isn’t his first time tweaking around with a Dilla record. After dropping Da Rochina 3 back in 2016, he spliced Drake’s “30 for 30 Freestyle” with J Dilla production.

Last week, producer David Begun mashed up Dilla’s beats with selected verses from MF DOOM. The project, DOOMnuts, imagines an album from two legends who never quite got the chance to combine their powers in the form of a full project. Stream or download the album on Bandcamp.

Stay tuned for more music and updates from Sango.
