The Houston-based crew delivers half-speed edits of 16 MF DOOM classics.

In the month since his death was announced, tributes to MF DOOM have come in all forms and from all corners of the globe. But today, a slab-ride-worthy salute has arrived from Houston’s immutable Chopstars collective, treating a number of DOOM classics to their hallmark half-speed edits.

A collection of 16 songs was posted to the crew’s Audiomack page, featuring chopped and screwed versions of songs from virtually every era of DOOM, including “Rhymes Like Dimes,” “Figaro,” “Rapp Snitch Knishes,” All Caps,” and more. The tributary tape lands on the heels of an already busy year for the crew, issuing treatments of Thundercat’s It Is What It Is, Jasmine Sullivan’s Heaux Tales, Larry June and Harry Fraud’s Keep Going, and a Chopstars tribute to Sade.

The tape is just the latest sign of coping with DOOM’s loss in the world of hip-hop. Peers, collaborators, and fans have been commemorating the late rapper throughout the month of January with untold stories, unreleased songs, and personal accounts of his impact. Just this week, Madlib revealed he learned about his Madvillainy partner’s death when the rest of us did. And in another interview with The Guardian, the producer seemed unsure if a sequel to his revered collaborative project with the rapper would ever actually materialize.
