Lil Uzi Vert once said he’ll “leave this earth” at the age of 27 during a 2016 interview with Nardwuar, but it looks like fans might have misunderstood what he meant. In a series of tweets on Sunday (November 15), the rapper revealed he was actually referring to taking drugs, rather than dying at that specific age.

“I let this go for so long I never said I was gonna die,” he said in response to a TikTok theory video. “Don’t you know leave this earth is a term for taking DMT. I thought I was gonna really be one of those High ass N-ggas at 27 ……. SAY NO TO DRUGS !!!!!”

In a since-deleted tweet, Uzi also spoke on what he meant by telling fans they’re “going to hell” with him at London’s Wireless Festival in 2018.

“Every sin is the same killing is no different from stealing,” he said. “Fighting is no different from having sex before marriage. So tell me am I going to hell for living. Or am I going to hell for what I said … remember actions speak louder than words.”

Uzi also revealed why he said 27 in the first place and made sure to speak out against drugs once more.

Fans assumed Uzi was talking about the “27 Club” — a list of celebrities who died at 27 years old. Some of the most famous names include Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse and Chicago rapper Fredo Santana.

On Friday (November 13), Lil Uzi Vert released his long-awaited collaborative album with Future, Pluto x Baby Pluto, which featured 16 tracks between the two rappers. On the same day it dropped, Uzi revealed he plans to retire after dropping two more albums.

“I’m dropping 2 more albums then I’m out,” he wrote on Twitter, before deleting the tweet.
