Philadelphia, PA – As if 2020 isn’t challenging enough, Freeway faced an insurmountable tragedy when his son passed way last month. But on Saturday (November 7), millions of Americans celebrated Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election, giving the Roc Nation rapper something to smile about, at least temporarily.

Like the president-elect, who has already set up a coronavirus task force as he patiently awaits Donald Trump to concede, Freeway is getting to work. On Monday (November 9), Freeway shared a photo of himself posing with Biden, masks intact, and vowed to help rebuild his Philadelphia community.

“We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it,” he wrote in the caption. Where I am from everyone’s main focus is to get to the dead presidents. One of my main focuses moving forward is is to build with the the new President elect @joebiden & help him stand on his promise to hold our community down.”

Biden knows Freeway’s pain all too well. In 1972, his wife and infant daughter were killed in a car accident, while his son Beau died from brain cancer in 2015. During a stop in Philly on November 1, Biden was able to empathize with Freeway at a rally who took the stage as part of the day’s festivities.

“I also want to thank Philly Freeway for being here and performing,” he said. “I know he’s heartbroken about the loss of his son. I know the pain of burying a son and he does too now, unfortunately. It means the world to me he chose to be here because the election is that important.”

Election Day took place on Tuesday (November 3) and has been a roller coaster ride, to say the least. Not only did it take four days for the Associated Press to call the race, but Trump’s refusal to concede has resulted in numerous lawsuits accusing various states of voter fraud.

On Wednesday (November 10), President-Elect Biden delivered a speech calling Trump’s refusal to welcome him as his successor an “embarrassment,” adding it will only tarnish whatever legacy Trump will leave behind.
