Drake dropped a bombshell on Friday (October 2) when he revealed he used to date SZA in his verse on 21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s “Mr. Right Now.” The topic was all over social media due to the high profile of both artists, and also the fact SZA could have been underage based on Drizzy claiming they were together in 2008.

On Sunday (October 4), the Top Dawg Entertainment singer took to Twitter to confirm their relationship and clarify she was over the age of 18.

“So it was actually 2009 lol,” she said. “In this case a year of poetic rap license mattered. Lol I think he jus innocently rhymed 08 w wait. Anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm.. it’s all love all peace.”

She added, “I just didn’t want anybody thinking anything underage or creepy was happening. Completely innocent. Lifetimes ago.”

SZA initially responded with a subliminal message following the song’s release, posting a viral video to her Instagram Stories.

“Excuse me, ma’am!” a man says in the clip. “Excuse me! You’re in my business? Yeah, don’t do that.”

Not only that, but she also unfollowed Drake on Instagram.

Drizzy dedicated several lines to SZA on “Mr. Right Now,” telling a current companion about his history with the TDE artist 12 years ago.

“Yeah, said she wanna fuck to some SZA, wait/’Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08/If you cool with it, baby, she can still play,” he raps.

It didn’t take long for fans to do the math. Drake, who is currently 33-years-old, would have been 21 or 22 at the time, while 29-year-old SZA would have been 17 or 18.

The track appears on 21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s long-awaited Savage Mode 2 album, which dropped on Friday (October 2). According to Hits Daily Double, the LP also featuring Morgan Freeman, Young Thug and Young Nudy is expected to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with roughly 170,000 to 195,000 units sold.
