Liam Tracy delivered his first track of the year “Demons” in June and is now making a swift return with his follow-up single “Heartless.” Produced by tenured producer Statik Selektah, the track combines the prolific Lawrence, Massachusetts legend’s timeless style with Liam’s deft lyricism and perceptive storytelling.

“Heartless” sounds like a modern throwback, as the vintage Statik beat is accented by contemporary elements to impart dexterous production. Combined with Liam’s words lyrics, the collaboration is bursting with easter eggs while simultaneously remaining accessible.

“Liam came through and it was organic,” Statik tells HipHopDX. “The joint came out right! He’s a dope cat on some New York City shit.”

While the Statik instrumental is captivating unto itself, it doesn’t consume the listening experience. Instead, it acts as an invisible hand guiding Liam’s pen. The New York-bred artist uses this soulful soundscape to channel his astute wordplay with lines such as, “I used to drive a Thunderbird pushing on E/Now we ain’t talking ‘less that ‘E’ between the ‘C’ and ‘O.’”
