Will Smith and Morgan Cooper, the filmmaker behind 2019’s viral Bel-Air trailer, are teaming up for a reboot of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two are adapting the popular series into a drama inspired by Cooper’s YouTube video, which reimagined the show by removing its comedic elements.

The revamped version titled Bel-Air is being developed by Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Universal TV, which produced the original series. THR reports the show is already been shopped to streaming services such as HBO Max, Netflix and NBC’s recently-launched Peacock.

Smith will be joined by Fresh Prince creators Andy and Susan Borowitz as well as original producers Quincy Jones and Benny Medina on the reboot’s lineup of executive producers. Chris Collins, who wrote episodes of The Wire and Sons Of Anarchy, will serve as the showrunner and co-write the script with Cooper.

Bel-Air is intended to be an hourlong drama exploring the original show’s premise. In The Fresh Prince, the fictionalized version of Smith is forced to leave his home in West Philadelphia and move in with relatives living in the upscale Los Angeles neighborhood of Bel-Air. The show’s theme song famously recounts the events that led to him relocating to California.

The Fresh Prince aired on NBC from 1990-1996 and became the launch pad for Smith’s acting career. The show is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
